Hello. My server has a problem I have a server with 128 GB Ram and 32 cores However, Garrysmod uses always only 1 core and it laagt mega if one cars etc. wants to go with 32 players How I can change this Since these are only the drivers in the car sit, then thus laagen

Thanks in prerau

GMod server can't use more than a single core. Would be better if you had a CPU with a high single core performance tbh. Try messing with tickrate etc and see if it improves anything

There's some things you can do to try and make it use 1 core and a bit, but it's not very recommended. The specifications of your dedicated server seem way too extreme for Garry's Mod (if that's the only thing you're using it for).

Some people literally actually freaking buy something like that just to host a GMod server thinking their server would actually run smoothly, without realising it wouldn't make a damn difference. I do hope he's joking, but I know there's actually a fair chance he's not lmao

I guess I expected too much from people.

Investigate what add-ons you have installed on your server and how you could optimize them. As mentioned above, GMOD only can make use of one core, I recommend using a higher clocked CPU if you need better performance, for example: Xenons usually clock lower as they are designed for server workloads, whilst the "I" series (I3,I5,I7) usually allow for higher clock speeds for running games etc.

I'm also sure you just don't run Garry's Mod servers on that one machine with them insane specifications.

I would only ever choose between E3-1231 V3 or i7 4790k as they are both amazing for single core performance as well as good for source games (from my experience).

I just changed hosts and I made sure to get the i7 4790k that clocks in at 4.4ghz. 128 gbs of ram is highly useless. I haven't seen SRCDS use over 2gbs...

It's highly recommended for most DarkRP servers, so you should be good.

Technically yeah but did you ever think of the client version. The Client version of Gmod supports 2 Cores and with little modification you would have a 2 core server.

Just an idea but theoretically it would work.

why would the client be using the server's CPU???

plus Marcuz posted this before GMod's multicore capabilities for the client became stable and announced

Also, unless _Killburn & Robotbiy655 are magicians, everything will be one threaded until developers learn to use threading, and seeing how lazy people already are with Gmod stuff only premium addons would use threading.

gmod_mcore_test = 1I'll say no more...

plus most people that would want this are DarkRP or RP owners in general so that'll spike even more of a reason to crash.

If anyone's wondering what the ConVars they're here:
