Customer: Can I install scripts that I bought on a server I do not own?
Can I install scripts that I bought on a server I do not own?
No. In fact, this is a direct violation of the script's license and is also against our Purchasing Scripts guidelines.
Why not?
When you purchase a license for a script on gmodstore, you are purchasing the right to use it on servers that you own. This is pretty standard copyright stuff.
The owner of the server needs to own the license for each of the gmodstore addons on their server.
What if a server owner asks me to install a script that I own?
Tell them that this could get you banned from gmodstore. Ask them to buy the script themselves and then you can configure and install the script that they bought on their server.
Is it okay for the license holder (server owner in this case) to send me scripts they have bought for me to install on their server?
Absolutely. This is outlined as acceptable in the guidelines linked above. Please do not keep any local copies of scripts that are not licensed to you.
Can I install my personal copy of a script on a server I am working on and then have the server owner buy their own copy later?
This is not recommended.
Scripts are linked to the account that downloaded them. Installing your own copy of a script on multiple servers might be flagged as a potential leak and your access may be revoked, even if the server owner has a license. Additionally, as the license holder, you are responsible for the use (and possible misuse) of any scripts that are licensed to you.
Having your licensed scripts on servers you do not own is not only against our rules, it could lead to you being banned if someone other than you gains access to your licensed scripts and misuses them.
It is our recommendation that you never install your own personal copy of a script on a server that you do not own, even if the owner has a license to the script.
