The following feature is intended for the Helix Roleplaying Framework, and as such will be incorporated into a schema utilizing this framework. The plugin we are seeking to create is a plugin that allows for Xen Portals to randomly appear in various locations across the map. These portals will spawn helix items (similarly to the Half-Life games, taken from a spawn pool), and NPCs who are also taken from a spawn pool. The NPC Classes outlined in this spawn pool will be given a spawn chance, and a rare true/false value to help determine the spawn rate of hostile NPCs through these portals. Portals in different areas will have an increased chance of spawning the enemies marked as rare. Alternatively, we could also have different portal elements to spawn in different enemies. The portals themselves, when spawned in, are standardized entities. If players directly walk into a portal entity while it is active but not spawning anything (there will be a minor delay between its appearance and the introduction of enemies, intending to give the player a 1 second chance to react/begin running), that player will take a minor amount of damage. Once the entity is done spawning its items/npcs, it will disappear until it is called upon again.
What we are looking for:
- A developer who is skilled and familiar with Helix, Automated NPC Spawning & Server Performance, Random Interval Based modifications, and IX Item automated spawning.
- A system that adds the Half-Life Portals that will randomly spawn in selected zones across the map
- This can be handled by specifically placed entity spawners that persist after a map restart/server shutdown, do not duplicate during a Lua Refresh;
- If this route is pursued, we would prefer if there is some ability to customize the NPCs that a specific spawner generates in-game. Alternatively, if it is simply an entity with a table that we can modify, that is adequate as well.
- This can also be handled by Helix AreaEdits, however, I do not feel that this is the most optimized route to pursue.
- These portals will have a one second interval between them appearing, and NPCs/Items spawning.
- NPCs spawning will be taken from a pool and select one-four of these NPCs, based on the configuration of the Spawner
- Helix Items will also be taken from a pool. It will fill only one NPC slot per item. There will be a significantly low chance of portals spawning only items, however it will be possible.
- This pool needs to be specified through a table of some sort. I propose using our Item Spawner plugins ITEM.chance = ## which determines if it is spawnable or not, as this would simplify things for both yourself, and our team.
