is there a way to have this not pop up when players join, but instead have it open via a chat command? :) I use a custom MOTD which points to my rules and other links etc but I also really like this.

No, you do not need HTML to use this. However, it helps for making a much nicer looking update.

It's not too hard for me to add multi-domain support. However, it'll need to be a JPEG/PNG. The issue comes when less "experiences" players don't follow that rule and try to upload unsupported formats...

If the player closes out of it then rejoins the server are they notified of the same update or until you push out another update notification?

No, but you can easily upload pretty much any image to imgur...

Is there a way images but no imgur image?
